Startup costs

What to plan for, up front.

A snapshot of the one-time and recurring costs that get a truck into service. Some are owner-managed, some are financed alongside the truck.

Plan for

Roughly $9,700 – $11,700 in upfront capital.

Excludes the truck and trailer, which are typically financed. Breakdown: onboarding $1,500 + ELD setup $400 + insurance down payment $3,000–$5,000 + equipment package $4,800.

Lettering, the annual DOT inspection, and state tags vary. The ~$2,000 maintenance escrow is funded from your first settlements, not out of pocket. Bobtail insurance ($200–$300/mo) is an ongoing owner-managed cost.
